Square Enix Confirms Release of Final Fantasy XVI on PC
Square Enix has officially announced that Final Fantasy XVI will no longer be exclusive to PlayStation 5, as they are currently developing a PC port. This news may not come as a surprise, as the game’s initial trailer in 2020 had mentioned a PC version, although Square Enix had retracted that information later on.
In a video posted to X (formerly Twitter), producer Naoki Yoshida said that his team is currently working on a PC version of the game. Yoshida also stated that Square Enix plans to expand the game. “One thing that came out particularly strongly was how people wanted to see more of Valisthea’s story and spend more time with her inhabitants,” he said. “To accommodate, the development team has begun work on two installments of paid DLC.”

There is no word yet on when Final Fantasy XVI’s two expansions and the PC version will arrive. Yoshida hopes to deliver the update by the end of 2023.
Of note, Square Enix recently announced that Final Fantasy XIV, the perennially popular MMO, will be coming to Xbox next spring after years of being available only on PlayStation and PC. The prospect of Final Fantasy XVI making the same leap across platforms is intriguing.
Meanwhile, Yoshida announced a free update for the game for PS5 players. New features include additional character skins, an onion sword, more controller options, and a transmog feature (ie the ability to change the appearance of Clive’s sword to that of any other sword in his inventory without affecting stats). The patch is now available.
